M/E Remote Control System — Motor Vessel (MV)
Retrofit of the main engine remote control system on a single-engine vessel with a clutch gearbox, using Siemens S7-1200, ET 200SP and SIMATIC HMI; three control stations — bridge, engine control room and engine room.

About the project
We renewed the main engine remote control system (M/E Remote Control System) of a motor vessel (MV) on Siemens hardware. The front panels and telegraph levers of the existing CJBW control stations were kept; the electronics behind them were completely removed and replaced with a new control system built on a Siemens S7-1200 CPU, ET 200SP distributed I/O modules and a SIMATIC HMI. The PLC and HMI software was developed in TIA Portal, and the stations communicate over PROFINET.
The system was designed for a fixed-pitch propeller with a clutch gearbox: clutch engagement and disengagement, ahead/astern direction changes and speed setting are handled by the PLC according to the telegraph lever position. There are three control stations — wheelhouse (WH), engine control room (ECR) and engine room (LOC) — and control is transferred between them by take-over.
The SIMATIC HMI shows main engine and shaft rpm, the speed set value, the active control station, and lube oil and cooling water temperatures. Stop conditions such as overspeed, low lube oil pressure, high cooling water temperature and low gearbox oil pressure, as well as alarms, are shown both on the HMI and on the existing panel indicators.
The panels were pre-assembled and function-tested in the workshop; installation, commissioning and testing were completed on board.
